Large health plan adds new programs for gut health, weight loss in their platform
A large health plan's digital health platform has expanded its offerings to include four new programs.
The additions, which launched in mid-May, are Ciba Health, Digbi Health, Wondr Health and an expansion of the DarioHealth platform. The company announced it would include Dario in September for English and Spanish speakers to reduce and track hypertension.
Launched in 2019, the health plan's digital health platform has now reached its five-year anniversary mark, serving more than 355,000 members and helping them lose more than 272,000 pounds. The platform includes programs that combine education with instruction to help people enjoy healthier lives.
“We launched the platform in 2019 to help our members prevent, treat and even reverse chronic diseases with lifestyle medicine at no additional cost,” said Angie Kalousek Ebrahimi, senior director of lifestyle medicine at the health plan, in a statement. “Lifestyle medicine, paired with personalized health coaching and digital tools and technologies, can transform lives.”
Ciba Health is designed to focus on the root cause of disease by making small changes to diets to reverse diabetes and obesity, explained a health plan spokesperson.
DarioHealth’s diabetes management program also joined the platform lineup in May. It offers a blood sugar testing device that is plugged into a member’s phone, test strips and lancets to help members and coaches better track blood sugar management. Wondr Health analyzes behavior change to help members lose weight in the long term by improving sleep and reducing stress, among other factors.
If members use Digbi Health, they can access an at-home gut microbiome test kit. Digbi Health experts create a “custom treatment plan” for food and medications, the health plan's spokesperson said. Digbi is offered for members who qualify for the diabetes prevention program that includes criteria like family history and BMI.
“Over the past five years, we have worked closely with this health plan to guide members to personalized digital health solutions addressing an expanding array of chronic conditions,” said John Santelli, interim CEO at digital health benefits marketplace Solera Health, with which the insurer partnered to build the plan's platform. “We pride ourselves on curating a comprehensive, high-quality network, and look forward to continuing our work with Blue Shield to improve the lives of Californians by preventing and improving a range of health conditions.”
